To paraphrase Michelangelo, there is a potential work of art breathing in every stone and Angel Lightfeather reminds us of this theory. She awakens whimsical, sensual and tactile images in her imaginative paintings and sculptures. Her work combines the simplicity of primitive art with the childlike spontaneity of Picasso. Her magical world leads us into the discovery of the hidden beauty in nature, and a distant melody of a memory that we each have deep within our souls and a recognition of who we really are. Angel awakens in us perhaps something of our innocence.
Angel Lightfeather also known as "Spirit Dancer", has always created art from earthbound subjects and air borne Images - horses-skies-universes. Inspired by Native American history and folklore Angel's "Great Spirit Medicine Ponies" were inspired by a Sacred Medicine Hat Pony which she owned in New Mexico.
According to ancient legend that has passed from generation to generation through native american storytellers, medicine men and medicine woman elders, as history passed through time, these Medicine Hat Ponies have magical and spiritual stories about them. Their power is similar to the unicorn, they heal, protect and join in spirit with their owner.
These magical works of art are all elaborate designs of exquisite beauty, titled "The Great Spirit Medicine Pony", each of the detailed markings and colors have symbolic meaning, representing characteristics and qualities of the pony and its owner.
Each sculpture is a unique one of a kind. Angel makes less than 30 pieces a year and it takes approximately 60 hours on a piece, and are sought after by collectors world wide. Collectors send letters about spiritual experiences and good luck that happens to them from the work.
